2005 BMAF Cross Country Relay Championships
29th October, Tredegar Park, Newport
A very short course and a bit of a shock for us middle distance runners who
are used to a few more hills. Just over 3,000m per leg so hardly a chance to get warm!
For those of you who have raced at the Shuborough relays at Stafford in the
Summer, this course is almost identical except run the other way around.
The first 1500m is fast and loops around flat grass. Then onto the woodland
track where it gets faster and the passing trees give some idea
as to how fast you are running.
TAC sent along 3 teams. Our ladies team comprised of Nellie...Yes just Nellie. She ran on her own on the first leg and came in in second place but
with nobody to hand over to. She achieved the third fastest time (11.37)of the day and is confident that TAC ladies would have
won a medal if the other two had have turned up.
The men had a 6 stage V40's team :-
John Sanders(10.17), Steve Jones(10.50), Andy Smith(10.46), Pete Plant(10.25), Steve Needs(10.37),
and Gregg Wilson(10.17). They did well to finish in 5th place overall.
TAC V50 team looked good on paper and stood a good chance
of getting into the medals but had to settle for fourth position on the day:-
Malcome Dawes(11.26), Simon Dawes(11.11), Mick Hailey(10.40) and Rick Hailey(10.19).
We could have won the brothers category with this team... :-)
