Shropshire Athletes

Cheryl Evans TAC and England W45 :Individual Bronze and Team Gold
We feel that nerves got the better of Cheryl on the day. After setting off well she faded on the last lap and lost her silver medal position to Jane Clarke. Cheryl was most disappointed with her run and gave us all loads ear ache for the rest of the day! It must be noted that Cheryl has only returned to form over the last couple of months after being out of action with injury for a while. A spectacular performance considering.

Nellie Sanders TAC and Wales W40 :Team Bronze
Nellie was over the moon when asked to compete for her country. Not many people know that she is actually Welsh except for those who have seen the tattoo of the dragon on her left buttock!
Another fablous performance finishing 10th in her age group and picking up a team bronze medal. It must be an age thing but Nellie has also been out of action for months after undergoing major surgery last year. Lets hope this is the first of many appearances in the Welsh vest.

Greg Wilson TAC and England M50 :Individual 4th and Team Gold
Greg is no stranger to competing for his country and has a cabinet of trophies to prove it. On this occasion he just missed out on the individual medal and was well disappointed with 4th place.
He blames his performance on someone who sneezed on him earlier in the week. This in turn created a chemical imbalance in his legs.
Greg was spotted after the race with Cheryl where the two of them were trying to convince each other that they had had the worse run. Moaning for England!!!
Greg promises to take revenge in the North Wales cross country at Bangor next week.

Collin Mattock TAC and Wales M55 :Best M55 Dancer!
Colin is a seasoned athlete and has many years of track and road success under his belt. A stunning performance finishing second in the Welsh line up only 20 seconds behind first Welsh man home Steve Coup. Colin later explained that he had been restricted in the pant region and if his Welsh shorts hadn't have been so tight then he could have knocked 30 seconds off of his time!
Colin didn't take home any medals but was spotted fraternising with Dame Mary Peters at the presentation ceremony and also awarded best male dancer over 55.

Graham Jones Shrewsbury and Wales M50 :Best Roomie
First appearance in a Welsh vest for the Shrewsbury AC runner who is best known for his achievements on the fells. Graham had a solid run and looked in control throughout the race finishing in 3rd place for the Welsh team in a time of 32 minutes. The weekend was a whole new experience for Graham who's travel and hotel expenses had been heavily subsidised by fellow workers and team mates from Shrewsbury (it cost the rest up us an arm and a leg!). He'll leave Belfast with great memories of the race and with happy recollections of the Welsh set up for hotel room sharing (they say that top'n tails in a single bed enhances team spirit)!

Paul Williams - TAC
27th in the open 8k.
Paul admits that he had a bad one and explains that he just jogged round after not feeling good at the start. It is rumoured that Paul was actually conserving energy in preparation for the post race celebrations back at the Europa Hotel. As it happens, Paul was called upon later in the day to help council Cheryl in her state of 'total failure'.

John Sanders - TAC
7th in the open 8K.
John hasn't trained properly or run competitively since February when he developed a severe case of tendonitis dancing at Nellies 40th Birthday Party. Came along to cheer on his wife and to get a photo of himself with the winning ladies.
