Champion Cheralyn showing off her gold medal after finishing 1st overall in the British Masters 10K with PB time of 36.48 - And still looking good without a hair out of place!!!
It was a delighted Cheralyn who hugged race officials at the end as she
celebrated her first ever national title. The tough two lap 10 k course
included 2 hills per lap, so times were expected to be slower than usual,
but after Cheralyn had gone through the first 5k in 18.03 rather quicker
than usual she had an idea a good time was possible. She ran the second
half of the race almost as quick crossing the finishing line in 36.48,
well inside her previous best of 37.01 set 3 years ago on the flat Telford
10k course. Cheralyn is in a fine run of form at the moment as this result
comes after she was first veteran in the Lake Vrynwy Half Marathon and
4th overall in 1.24.19 in her very first half marathon. She was also part
of the Telford AC team that took the bronze medals at the recent Midland
Road Relay Championships. She has put her name forward for possible selection
for the England team that competes in the British Masters Cross Country
Championships in Belfast in November. She expects to hear news of the selected
team over the next few days.
Another Telford AC runner Nellie Sanders, from Shifnal also got amongst
the medals as she took bronze in the over 40 category in 39.28, finishing
7th in the race overall. Other Telford AC vets in action were Richard
Jones, 13th in the over 40s in 36.35 and Colin Mattock 7th in the over
55s in 37.17.
Paul Sanderson.
