Midlands Cross Country Championships.
Telford AC's senior womens cross country team added another honour to their growing list of achievements as they took silver team medals at the Midland Cross country Championships held at Leamington. On a very wet and demanding course Kim Fawke led the team home in 8th place, closely followed by Claire Martin in 10th, Cathy Ansell in her first senior championships was 16th whilst Sian Davies was 24th giving the club 58 points.Hayley Jennings was 30th whilst Lisa Blagden completed the team in 128th. Charnwood AC were the winners with 36 points given a brilliant start with three runners in the first 7 places. Bristol and West were 3rd with 61 points whilst Birchfield finished 4th, Coventry 5th and Severn 6th.
Kim Fawke was pleased with her run despite feeling tired as she is in a high mileage phase of her training for the London Marathon in April, she reported feeling stronger as the race went on. Although 8th in what was one of the strongest Midlands fields for years she just lost out in a sprint finish and missed 6th by just 3 seconds finishing in 22.41 behind the winner Hannah Whitmore from Charnwood. Claire Martin was 12 seconds behind in 10th with Cathy Ansell who was 6th in the Under 20's last year was 16th in 23.57. Sian Davies continued her comeback to form finished 24th in 24.24.
Oswestry's Alison Lavender ran well to finish 8th in the Under 20 womens race in 22.29.
Telford AC's Harriet Grandfield who is in her first year in the under 15 girls race finished a superb 10th in 17.49.
Josh Ogden from Oswestry OLympians was 18th in the Under 17 mens arce in 22.29.
In the senior mens race Will Joyce led the Telford AC finishers in 40th in 44.09, behind the winner James Walsh from Leeds. Chris Bagshaw was next home in 61st, whilst Richard Lucock was 114th, Chris Talbot 291st and Alan Hodgkiss 371st.
Oswestry's Joe Morris was a pleasing 19th in the Under 13 boys race in 13.32 whilst the Stokes twins Ryan and Greg were 44th and 89th respectively in the the under 15 boys race.
