Kim Green Telford, Shropshire
|
Telford Athletic Club's Kim Green had the race of her life in the Great
North Run Half Marathon last week, setting a new club record in the process.
Kim from Sutton Hill, was taking part in the race for the first time having
recently won the Wolverhampton Half. Fresh from her personal best run in the
Midland Road Relays where she had the 8th fastest time she went to the North
East full of confidence. Originally set to start in the mass start, with the
other 50,000 runners, her recent good form and a quick phone call from
Telford AC team mate GB International Chris Davies, Kim was given a starting
berth in the elite race along with some of the best distance runners from
around the world.
Kim finished 18th in the
womens race,in a race won by Ethiopia's Berhane Adere in 70.03,with
Australia's Benita Johnson second in 70.17. Although 18th in a high
qaulity race her performance looks even better when close inspection of
the results shows that she was the 8th British runner
home and 6 of those are full GB Internationals.Kim ran the 13.1
miles from Newcastle to South Shields in 77.23
, almost 2 minutes quicker than her previous best
in the Lake Vrynwy Half Marathon two years ago.
