One of Shropshire's most consistent runners this summer is amongst a small group of super veteran athletes in the county. Telford Athletic Club's Roger Sandland, who now lives in the picturesque Shropshire village of Cardington has achieved a unique feat of winning his age group in 3 local race Series this Summer. It is quite a feat to manage to fit in the 16 races involved stretching from April to September, but he not only ran them all but won the over 65 sections in them. The 3 Series were The Maldwyn Harriers 5 race series, is based around the Newtown/Welshpool area, the Oswestry Pentarathon 5 Race Series and the 6 Race Telford Sexarathon Series.

Roger who is a sports therapist and fitness trainer based at his the gym and treatment room he has built at his Cardington home, and amongst his many clients are international athletes Claire Martin and Chris Davies. He is a qualified UKA Coach and works with several athletes including Shropshire cross country champion Emma Davis from Little Stretton.
